About The University of Alabama

The University of Alabama is a public institution of higher education established in 1831, especially known for its law school, among other things.

The university’s over 200 degrees are structured into the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Engineering, College of Continuing Studies, College of Communication and Information Sciences, Culverhouse College of Commerce, College of Human Environmental Studies, Law School, Capstone College of Nursing, School of Social Work, College of Community Health Sciences, College of Education, Graduate School and Honors College.

Undergraduate programmes include American studies, art, chemistry, dance, geography, geology, history, marine science, mathematics, microbiology, music theory, political science, Spanish; advertising, journalism, public relations, telecommunication and film; accounting, business, management, marketing; education; aerospace, architectural, chemical engineering, computer science; human development and family studies, food and nutrition, interior design; nursing; social work.

In terms of student athletics, you can do football, gymnastics, basketball, baseball, rowing, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, swimming/diving, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

The University of Alabama is one of the 12 universities in the US which support wheelchair athletics, offering  the opportunity to do wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis, para-rowing, track and adapted golf.

The 1,200-acre campus also houses over 500 student clubs and organisations.

A few outstanding alumni include novelist Harper Lee, author of How To Kill a Mockingbird, Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales and biologist E. O. Wilson, the world leading expert in ants and Shaun Alexander, American football player.
