About Tampere University
Tampere University, based in Finland, was established in 2019 as a merger between the University of Tampere and Tampere University of Technology.
Tampere University comprises the following faculties: information technology and communication sciences; management and business; education and culture; medicine and health technology; built environment; engineering and natural sciences and social sciences. Within these faculties, students can gain bachelor, masters and postdoctoral degrees in a wide variety of specialties.
The university is primarily a research university, ranging from specialist subjects like game culture studies to tumour genetics. There are 10 Finnish Centres of Excellence at the university.
There are four separate campuses, each with their own speciality. For example, Hervanta campus and the surrounding area constitute a major technology hub while the Kauppi campus is located near the Tampere University Hospital. It is the home base for medicine and life sciences.
On campus, students can get involved in sport. There’s a variety of sports services including indoor and outdoor gyms, group exercise classes and personal training. There are also 30 different team sport clubs.
Tampere University also has partnerships with other universities worldwide offering students and staff the chance to spend a year studying abroad in more than 80 countries. Tampere University offers 38 master’s, six bachelor’s and 23 doctoral programmes in English for international students.
Notable alumni include current Prime Minister of Finland, Sanna Marin, former Prime Minister of Finland, Jyrki Katainen, and former Minister of Finance of Finland, Mika Lintilä.
