About the Role

The Associate Lecturer/Lecturer is expected to contribute to the teaching and research efforts of the School, in disciplines related to their field of expertise. Specifically, you will be responsible for carrying out teaching, and/or course coordination and convening activities (under academic supervision for Associate Lecturer), within the following RMIT Online programs: Graduate Certificate in User Experience Design, Graduate Certificate in Service Design, Graduate Certificate in Digital Product Design, and Graduate Diploma in Digital Product Design.

You are expected to actively promote the programs by establishing and maintaining memberships, links and partnerships with academic, industry and professional communities, and to maintain and advance your scholarly, research and/or professional capabilities. You are also expected to work collaboratively and collegially with fellow academics within the teaching team, and to update colleagues and students on developments in your subject area or specialisation.

To be successful for level A appointment, you will have:

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and teach programs at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, including online delivery, and the ability to produce high quality curriculum or program materials.
  • Ability to undertake course coordination and convening roles under academic supervision.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with and to negotiate sensitively with students especially on issues related to effective learning.
  • Emerging track record and recognition for quality research outputs which will contribute to existing Discipline and School research areas evidenced by publications, development of new research initiatives, competitive research funding, and industry links.

In addition to the above criteria, to be successful for level B appointment, you will also have:

  • Ability to undertake course coordination and convening roles independently
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise higher degree by research candidates.
  • Ability to build effective networks with colleagues and generate alternative funding for projects through effective liaison with industry and government.

Qualifications

Mandatory for Level A: Qualification in the relevant discipline area and have commenced or enrolled to commence your PhD.
Mandatory for Level B: PhD or equivalent in relevant field

Please Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children and National Police Check.

About the School

The School of Design is a School comprised of the disciplines of Industrial Design, Digital Design (including Animation and Interactive Media) and Communication Design.

The School builds on RMIT's leading national and international reputation in design education by creating a specific focus on emerging areas such as UX and service design, design strategy and virtual and augmented reality.

It comprises approximately 100 academic and 11 professional staff and over 3000 EFT undergraduate and postgraduate students with expectations of growth.
