Description
The Center for Interacting Urban Networks (CITIES) at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit a research assistant to support research activities related to urban traffic operations and autonomous vehicle security. This position will focus on deploying and enhancing simulation environments using CARLA, Autoware, and SUMO to create realistic urban traffic scenarios and generate data sets, including point cloud data.
The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up simulation environments for various research projects, generating and managing (point cloud) datasets, conducting experiments, and analyzing traffic data to support the development of advanced solutions to traffic operations problems. This role is particularly suited for individuals with a robust background in traffic simulation technologies and a keen interest in their application to urban science.
Candidates should have completed at least a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a closely related field. Required qualifications include experience with traffic simulation software, including CARLA and SUMO, particularly in integrating these systems for co-simulation. Strong programming skills, especially in Python, are essential. Candidates with experience in Autoware as well as CARLA are particularly encouraged to apply. The candidate must also possess excellent communication skills in English and a proven track record of scientific creativity. Additional knowledge and experience with deep neural networks will be beneficial.

Salaries are tax-free in the UAE (for US tax, the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion can be used). The researchers will have dedicated funds for traveling, computing, publications, and access to excellent world-class research facilities.
Applications will be evaluated immediately and will continue until the position is filled. To apply, please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of research interests, and two letters of reference, all in PDF format.
