We are seeking a motivated individual with extensive clinical trial experience and a passion for training and development to join our growing team. This is an excellent role for an experienced people manager to apply their extensive expertise and commitment to quality clinical trial best practice to enhance training and development across our clinical trial teams. This important role will manage the trainee's and optimise the trainee program to support the internal career growth for staff. Reporting to the Head of the Clinical Trials Unit, as the successful applicant you will:

Leadership and Strategy

  • Contribute to strategic planning for the unit, particularly in training and development and team culture
  • Provide strategic business partnering in training and development to support workforce capability uplift including implementing learning and development strategies, programs and practices across the group

Trainee Oversight and Development

  • Build and develop a pipeline of motivated and skilled trainees into the Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) from recruitment and onboarding, mentoring and support, evaluating competencies, and career path planning

Clinical Trial Staff Training:

  • Design, develop, and deliver clinical trial learning programs to address learning needs and ensure clinical trial staff skill competence.
  • Develop written guidelines or manuals to supplement training programs.
  • Develop a structure to document and manage training consistently and comprehensively.

Stakeholder Management

  • Identify key stakeholders including CTU leadership, investigators, sponsors and training providers, and build relationships to support CTU learning and development

You will be an excellent communicator with strong organisational, planning and execution skills. You will be a proactive, caring and supportive mentor with a history of inspiring and developing a team. Your passion for training and development will be evidenced by your track record of developing and delivering training that uplifts both skills and confidence in team and individuals delivering clinical trial support. You will be comfortable collaborating with managers across the unit and influencing stakeholders both within the clinical trials team and externally to achieve learning program objectives in a fast-paced setting.

About Us

The Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) is part of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences (FMHHS) at Macquarie University. FMHHS also has the Macquarie Medical School, the Macquarie University Private Hospital, and runs patient clinics, labs, imaging and a pharmacy all on campus in close proximity to support clinical trials, and support providing patients with access to state of the art treatments. The CTU undertakes sponsored and investigator initiated Phase I to IV trials across multiple therapeutic areas with multiple Principal Investigators. Our current team of over 60 staff (managing over 120 trials) are a close knit inclusive team with a supportive culture that values team work and innovation.

  • Extensive (5+ years) of experience working in clinical trials including site experience
  • Track record of developing and delivering engaging training courses or modules utilizing various mediums/methods to build knowledge and skills in a clinical unit cohort
  • Experience managing, training and mentoring a team including developing capability and supporting ongoing growth for career pathways
  • Ability to lead and deliver projects involving process improvement in a clinical trials setting
  • Experience building effective relationships and stakeholder management
  • A good understanding of adult learning principles along with online and blended learning will be highly regarded
